Privacy for casks

How casks handles information in your cellar

casks is a personal wine and whiskey cellar notebook. This page explains what the app can access on your device, what stays local, and when limited signals may leave the device so we can keep the experience stable.

What this policy covers

These practices apply when you use the casks iOS app to create bottle records, attach cover photos, set open-date countdowns, log tasting notes and flavor tags, browse your flavor map, and manage favorites or filters. You can use casks without creating an account or signing in.

Information that typically lives on your device

Most cellar content is stored on your iPhone with on-device persistence (including SwiftData-backed records). Depending on how you use the app, that may include:

Because cellar records are primarily local, deleting the app or clearing app data can remove that information from the device. We do not operate a mandatory cloud account that syncs your cellar for you.

Permissions you may see

casks only asks for system permissions when a related feature needs them:

You can change these permissions later in iOS Settings. Turning a permission off may disable the related feature while leaving the rest of the cellar available.

Why we process information

We process information to:

Network activity and platform services

Core cellar content is designed to stay on device. The app may still use Apple platform services and network access for system frameworks that power the experience, including App Tracking Transparency status, local notification scheduling through the system, and WebKit when opening linked legal documents.

When a page loads from an external URL in the in-app browser, that destination’s own practices may also apply. We do not sell your personal information.

Retention and your choices

Local cellar data remains on your device until you edit or delete individual records, clear app data, or remove the app. Notification schedules are cancelled when a bottle is opened or the related reminder is no longer applicable. Tracking status follows your iOS choice and can be updated in Settings.

Because there is no mandatory account, there is no separate in-app account deletion workflow. Removing the app is the primary way to remove local cellar content from that device.

Security in plain terms

We rely on iOS sandboxing and ordinary device protections for on-device storage. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly risk-free. Protect your device with a passcode or biometric lock, and keep iOS updated.

Children and sensitive categories

casks is not directed at children. Do not use the app to store information about children under 13 (or the equivalent age of digital consent where you live). The app is not intended to collect special-category health data; it is a cellar and tasting notebook, not a medical tool.

Policy updates

If we update this policy, we will revise the effective date shown below and post the updated page at the hosted location used by the app. Continued use after an update means you understand the revised description of our practices.
